Men's Outdoor T&F Report (Week 5) - RHIT Earns 2nd Place Finish at Twilight Meet
GREENWOOD, IN - Rose-Hulman led the HCAC contingent at the Rose-Hulman Twilight meet last weekend, placing second at the 11 team event. The Engineers tallied 157 points to finish 20 points behind first place Wabash. Franklin placed sixth at the meet, while Hanover finished ninth to round out the HCAC finishers.
The RHIT men's 4 x 400-meter relay team highlighted the meet for the Engineers with a school record effort in the final event. Sophomore Brent Austgen (Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central), senior Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles, Ill./Burlington Central), sophomore Tyler Hannan (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark) and junior Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va./H.S.) ran a historic time of 3:17.50 for the seventh-best time in the nation this outdoor season.
Franklin was led by sophomore Georard Mitchell (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) at the meet as the Grizzlies placed sixth overall as a team. The sophomore placed first in the long jump with a leap of 22’ 6.5” and earned a third place finish in the triple jump (42’ 9.75”).
Hanover was the third and final HCAC school that competed in Terre Haute, earning a ninth place finish.
Defiance, Bluffton, and Mount St. Joseph competed at the All-Ohio Championships held on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday. The Yellow Jackets placed 12th among the 19 schools, while Mount and Bluffton finished 14th and 18th respectively.
DC's Austin Trivett (Defiance, Ohio/H.S.) and Justin Perkins (Bryan, Ohio/Fairview) led the way for the Jackets at the meet, earning a pair of third place finishes. Trivett earned his third-consecutive Outdoor All-Ohio honor in the pole vault, clearing a height of 14' 7.25" for third place.
Perkins posted an All-Ohio performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second time in his career with a third place time of 9:31.34 (top time in HCAC).
In other action last week, Manchester, Anderson, and Earlham competed at the Manchester Outdoor Classic as the Spartans led the way with a fourth place finish. AU and EC placed seventh and eighth among the 11 competing schools to round out the conference finishers.
This weekend's schedule will be the final tune up before the HCAC Outdoor Championships at Hanover College on April 29-30.
