Men's Indoor T&F Report (Week 1) - RHIT Stands No. 20 in National Poll
GREENWOOD, IN - The 2012 indoor track and field season is in full swing as eight of the 10 conference schools have hit the track. After the first full week of action, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's track and field team stands 20th nationally in NCAA Division III in results released by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The NCAA Division III Track and Field Men's computer rankings list Rose-Hulman 20th overall with 31.81 points.
Rose played host to Earlham, Franklin, Hanover, and Manchester at the RHIT Friday Night Indoor Invitational last Friday, while Anderson, Bluffton, and Defiance were also in action.
Rose-Hulman placed first at the meet and was followed by Manchester (2nd), Franklin (3rd), Earlham (4th), and Hanover (5th).
Senior Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va./H.S.) earned two individual titles as the Engineers earned the win. Coleman ran a time ranked in the top five nationally this season with a mark of 8.29 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles and also placed first in the 200-meters (22.92).
Coleman also anchored the 4-X-400 relay team to a first place finish with a time of 3:27.71.
Manchester's Zeth Baker (Waterloo, Ind./DeKalb) broke the school record for the indoor mile with a time of 4:23.9 to capture the title at the meet.
Bluffton and Defiance did not post a team score at the Northwest Ohio Indoor Invitational, while Anderson did not post a team score at the Wabash Indoor Invite.
Defiance’s Tom Postema (Defiance, Ohio/Tinora) set a new school record in the shot put at the Northwest Ohio Invitational, breaking the record in the shot put with a toss of 49’ 5.5”, placing him first overall in the HCAC this season.
Postema also notched the second all-time mark at Defiance in the weight throw with a HCAC-best mark of 60’ 5”. The effort is currently the fifth longest mark in the nation for all of Division III this winter.
This weekend's schedule showcases six HCAC institutions. Mount St. Joseph and Rose-Hulman will compete at the Rose-Hulman Indoor Invitational, while Bluffton and Defiance will compete at Defiance. Anderson will be in action at Indiana Wesleyan and Transylvania will travel to Denison.
