Rose-Hulman Set to Host HCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

GREENWOOD, IN – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will serve as host for the HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships this Saturday. All ten institutions will take part in the indoor event. The Rose-Hulman men were selected by the coaches during the preseason to win the 2012 indoor title, while the Hanover women were tabbed to capture the women’s title.

The Rose-Hulman men have been successful this indoor season, posting the top HCAC performances in eight of the 16 indoor events. The Engineers are ranked No. 3 in the Great Lakes Region and stand No. 22 overall in Division III in the USTFCCCA rankings.
Senior Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va./H.S.) has posted the HCAC’s best mark in the 200-meters, 400-meters, and 60-meter hurdles. Coleman is also a member of the 4x400 meter relay squad that ranks No. 1 in the league.
The RHIT women’s track team will try to pick up where they left off last winter as HCAC indoor champions. The Engineers have posted eight top marks in the conference so far this indoor season. Junior Liz Evans (Bicknell, Ind./North Knox) holds the top mark in the women’s 60-meter dash, high jump, long jump, and triple jump.
Anderson has five of the top HCAC performances this indoor season and has been paced by the efforts of Alex Friske (McHenry, Ill./H.S.) and Candace DeLong (Frankton, Ind./H.S.). Friske holds the HCAC top marks in the 200-meters and 60-meter hurdles, while DeLong has the top times in the mile and 5,000-meter runs.
Three men and two women are individually ranked in the national top 25 in their respective events entering this weekend’s championship meet.
Nationally ranked men competing in the meet include Defiance's Tom Postema (Defiance, Ohio/Tinora) (No. 5 in the shot put and No. 9 in the weight throw) and Rose-Hulman's Sutton Coleman (No. 2 in the 60-meter hurdles and No. 22 in the 400-meters) and Collin Crowson (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) (No. 14 in the pole vault).
On the women's side, nationally ranked competitors include Manchester's Casey Loshe (Decatur, Ind./Adams Central (No. 10 in the high jump) and Rose-Hulman's Liz Evans (No. 2 in the high jump).
The event will be held at the Sports and Recreation Center on the campus of Rose-Hulman beginning at 1:00 PM Saturday afternoon. Admission is available for $5 per person and $3 for students as designated for conference championship events. HCAC students will be admitted for free with proper identification.
