Men's Indoor T&F Report (Week 3) - Manchester Earns Victory at Anderson Invite
GREENWOOD, IN - Manchester College's men's indoor track and field squad earned a first place finish at the Anderson Indoor Invitational last weekend. The Spartans tallied 187 points at the event that featured five HCAC schools.
MC's Alex Gardner (Indianapolis, Ind.) claimed the title in the triple jump with the second best jump in school history (13.66 meters). The effort is also the top mark in the HCAC this indoor season. The freshman capped off the afternoon with a third place finish in the 60-yard dash (7.32).
Senior Alec Womboldt (DeWitt, Mich.) won the 5K with a HCAC-best time of 15:28.07. The effort was the third fastest time in school history.
Anderson finished second at the meet with 106 points. Tony Johnson (South Bend, Ind.) (60-meters, 7.04), Marc St. Amour (Schererville, Ind.) (1,000-meters, 2:41.63) and Max Kittle (Algonquin, Ill.) (60-meter hurdles, 8.73) each won an individual event for the Ravens
Earlham College placed third (80 pts) at the meet and was followed by Hanover (77, 4th) and Transylvania (34, 5th).
Rose-Hulman and Franklin competed at the DePauw Indoor Invitational Friday. The Engineers won their third consecutive meet, while Franklin finished sixth.
Rose’s Stuart West (La Porte, Ind.) won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.19 to record the fourth fastest time in Rose-Hulman history.
The Rose-Hulman men's track and field team stands third in the Great Lakes Region in the third poll released by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Engineers also appear at No. 22 nationally in the latest poll.
Defiance and Bluffton were also in action at the Ohio Northern Polar Bear Invitational. The Jackets claimed a fourth place finish, while the Beavers placed sixth at the six team event.
This weekend's schedule is the final tune-up prior to the HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 18 at Rose-Hulman. All ten schools will hit the track in preparation for next weekend's inaugural event.
