FRANKLIN, IN – Franklin College will serve as host of the 2012 HCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday.  Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won the school’s fourth straight HCAC men’s outdoor title last spring and will look for their fifth consecutive crown this weekend.  The Engineers defeated second place Franklin 226.5 to 123 at Hanover College last April.  The Hanover College women won their first conference championship last spring, edging second place Defiance by 17 points.

The Rose-Hulman men return the 2012 Most Outstanding Indoor Track Athlete in senior Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va./H.S.).  Coleman holds the conference’s top marks in four events this outdoor season and currently ranks No. 6 nationally in the 400-meter hurdles and in the 110-meter high hurdles.  He is also part of the top ranked 4-X-400 meter relay team.   The senior has the top HCAC marks in the 200-meters (22.08), 400-meters (48.44), 110-meter hurdles (14.49), and 400-meter hurdles (53.06).

Rose will once again be a tough team to beat at Franklin as the Engineers have placed claim to nine events in the top performance list this outdoor season.  RHIT’s Micah Aldrich (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) holds the top mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Collin Crowson (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) and P.J. Schulthies (Dubois, Ind./Northeast Debois) have top marks in the pole vault and javelin. The Engineers 4-X-100 and 4-X-400 relay teams also are the top squads in the HCAC this spring.

The Hanover women’s track team will try and defend their title this weekend at Franklin.  The Panthers were also the champions at the Indoor HCAC Championships this winter.  Hanover has posted five top marks on the top performance list this spring.  Freshman Briahna Chambers (Bell, Texas/Ellison) holds the top mark in the 200-meters, while Rachel Moreland (Lawton, Mich./H.S.) holds the best time in the 1,500-meter run. Freshman Mackenzie Dye (New Castle, Ind./H.S.) and junior Lexi Vincz (Greenfield, Ind./Eastern Hancock) hold the top effort in the 10,000-meters and 400-meter hurdles respectively.  The Panthers 4-X-100 relay team also is the top squad in the HCAC this season.

Rose-Hulman’s women have also posted five top marks this spring and will try and claim the school’s first outdoor track and field title after finishing a point behind Hanover at the indoor meet in February. Junior Liz Evans (Bicknell, Ind./North Knox) has one of the top leaps nationally in the high jump and has led the HCAC field in the long jump and triple jump as well.  Junior Creasy Clauser (Crawfordsville, Ind./Southmont) has posted the top mark in the 400-meter dash this season and is also a member of the top HCAC 4-X-400 meter relay squad.

The event will be held at H. Dean Evans Track and Field Complex in Grizzly Park on the campus of Franklin College beginning at 3:30 PM Friday evening and will continue Saturday morning at 10:00 AM.
