GREENWOOD, IN - The Rose-Hulman men's outdoor track and field team placed first at the five team Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational Saturday. The Engineers led three league schools at the meet.
The Engineers scored 309 points at the meet and was led by the efforts of junior Austin Schulthies (Dubois, Ind./Northeast Dubois).
Schulthies won three events at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational Saturday and has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
The junior captured top honors in the javelin (174’0”), long jump (21’ 10.25”), and high jump (6’ 1.25”) to lead the Engineers to the team title.
Franklin and Defiance also competed in Terre Haute Saturday. The Grizzlies earned a second place finish, while the Jackets third overall.
Defiance’s Joe Davis (Ontario, Ohio/H.S.) earned a pair of first place finishes at the meet. The senior won the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:01.64 and was a member of the first place 1,600-meter relay team (3:24.32). Both performances are first in the HCAC this spring and rank among the top 21 in NCAA Division III.
This weekend all 10 HCAC schools will be in action on the track.
