Men's Cross Country Report (Week 2) - Manchester Finishes Second at Bowling Green
GREENWOOD, IN -Manchester College began their 2009 men's cross country season with a good showing at Bowling Green. The Spartans finished second among the competing Division III schools and sixth overall. The Spartan runners totaled 136 points in the meet that included competition from all levels of the NCAA and NAIA.
Manchester's Andy Williams (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) was the Spartans' top finisher, placing third among DIII athletes with a time of 25:29.3 on the 8K course. Williams finished 14th out of the 168 competing runners. Kyle Pletcher (Walkerton, Ind./John Glenn) and Braden Nelson (Angola, Ind./H.S.) each placed in the top 15 among Division III runners with times of 25:38.1 and 25:42.6 respectively. The black and gold are currently ranked ninth in the Great Lakes Region.
Franklin College placed second at the three-team Hanover Invitational this past weekend. The Grizzlies finished behind the University of Indianapolis in the team standings and held off rival Hanover. Jacob Hojnacki (LaPorte, Ind./H.S.) paced the Grizzlies at the 6K meet with a fifth place finish, finishing with a time of 20:44. Host Hanover was led by ninth place finisher Brock Harkness (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central). Harkness finished the course in a time of 21:33.
Defiance College hosted Bluffton at the Defiance Invitational this past week. The Yellow Jackets placed third and the Beavers fourth in the five team meet. DC's Justin Perkins (Bryan, Ohio/Fairview) placed sixth in the 8K meet with a time of 29:02. Bluffton's Andy Chaffee (Clarkston, Mich./H.S.) was the top Beaver finisher, claiming a time of 29:58.
This weekend, Anderson, Franklin, Hanover, Manchester, and Rose-Hulman will compete at the Indiana Intercollegiates in Terre Haute. Start time is set for 2:00 PM Friday afternoon.
In other action, Mount St. Joseph heads to South Bend for the National Catholic Invitational, while Bluffton and Defiance will run at Cedarville. Transylvania will travel to Berea.
