GREENWOOD, IN- The Franklin College men's cross country team started the 2011 season by finishing second at the Franklin Invitational at Johnson County Horse Park on September 3. The Franklin runners totaled 60 points, finishing 15 points behind champion Wilmington in the team standings.
Franklin placed 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th in the individual standings. Kris Sandlin (Scottsburg, Ind./H.S.) led the Grizzlies with a time of 27:37.13 on the 10K course.
Earlham's Jacob Naegeli (Trout Creek, Mon./Thompson Falls) was the individual champion at the meet, finishing the course in 26:43.31. As a team, Earlham placed fourth overall.
Hanover also ran at the Franklin Invite Saturday morning, placing sixth among the seven competing schools.
Rose-Hulman and Anderson spent the weekend competing at the Wabash Hokum Karem. The Ravens finished fourth place out of six teams with a score of 33, while the Engineers placed sixth with a score of 44.
The Anderson tandem of Emby Duncan (Albany, Ind./Delta) and Kirk Saunders (Bloomington, Ill./University) led all HCAC competitors with a sixth place finish (30:01).
This weekend's schedule is highlighted by the Defiance and Hanover Invitational. Bluffton and Defiance will compete at Defiance, while Hanover, Franklin, and Rose-Hulman will battle in southern Indiana.
In other action, Manchester will travel to the GLCA Championships and Mount St. Joseph and Transylvania compete at the Queen City Invitational.
