GREENWOOD, IN- The Manchester men's cross country team turned in an impressive effort at the NCAA Division III Pre-National Meet at Hanover College Saturday. The Spartans finished second at the meet, trailing champion Loras by 19 points.
Senior Jon Cafarelli (Lansing, Ill.) led a group of four Manchester University runners within the top 25. Cafarelli covered the L.S. Ayres Athletic Complex course, which is also the host site for the 2013 NCAA Division III national championships, in 29:59.26.
"This was the best team race we've had," Coach Brian Cashdollar said. "I feel like we are just edging into what we can do, too. The guys are working hard towards some big goals, and this was a good first step."
Rose-Hulman finished eighth at the meet, while host Hanover finished 19th in the 19 team field.
Bluffton, Defiance, and Mount St. Joseph competed at the All-Ohio Championships Friday. The Beavers finished 12th at the 21 team meet, while Defiance and MSJ placed 16th and 21st.
DC's Joe Davis (Ontario, Ohio/H.S.) led the way with a fourth place finish (26:09.36) on the 8K course, posting the best finish by a DC runner in the meet's history.
Anderson won the team title at the four team Earlham Invitational Saturday. The Ravens held off the host Quakers by 19 points in the standings.
Franklin was in action at the Greater Louisville Meet, placing sixth in the 38 team field. Kris Sandlin (Scottsburg, Ind./H.S.) won the Silver Meet with a time of 25:29.62, claiming his second individual title of the season.
Franklin and Rose-Hulman will run at the Rose-Hulman Invitational Saturday, while Mount St. Joseph will compete at the Walt Disney World Classic in Orlando.
