GREENWOOD, IN- Seven HCAC schools competed at the Wilmington #JennaStrong Fall Classic on Friday afternoon in the final tune-up before the HCAC Championship on November 2. Rose-Hulman was the top finishing HCAC school at the event, placing seventh among the 36 schools.
Junior Stuart West (LaPorte, Ind./H.S.) led five Rose-Hulman runners in the top 70 of 416 competitors. West came home 22nd overall in an 8K time of 25:55 that ranks as the 13th best time in Engineer cross country history.
Sophomore Jacob Becker (O'Fallon, Ill./H.S.) added a 48th place finish in a time of 23:36.
Defiance College’s Joe Davis (Ontario, Ohio/H.S.) set a new school record and was the top finishing HCAC athlete at the meet. The senior finished 16th out of 416 runners with a time of 25:43.21.
Hanover College finished 16th in the team standings and was followed by Franklin (20th), Anderson (21st), Defiance (23rd), Transylvania (31st), and Mount St. Joseph (34th).
Manchester University earned the team title at the four-team Manchester Invitational Saturday. The host Spartans held off Calvin, Earlham, and Kalamazoo at the meet.
Senior Jon Caffarelli (Lansing, Ill./Marian Catholic) was the individual champion, finishing the 8K course in 25:46.5.
Bluffton was also in action Saturday, placing 15th among 31 schools at the Oberlin Invitational.
All squads will be off this weekend in preparation for the HCAC Championships on November 2 at Defiance College.
