GREENWOOD, IN- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed third overall of 20 teams at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational Saturday.
Sophomore Matt Hill (Connersville, Ind./H.S.) had a 30-meter lead on the field when sent the wrong direction on a course turn, eventually leading to a 20th place individual finish in a time of 26:41.
Senior Sam Sobczak (Westfield, Ind./H.S.) came home fourth overall with a time of 26:07 to lead the Rose-Hulman effort.
Nationally ranked Carnegie Mellon won the meet with 30 points, followed by NCAA Division II Ashland with 59 and Rose-Hulman with 78.
Franklin College was the only other HCAC team in action last week. The Grizzlies placed fourth at the seven team Principia Cowbell Classic.
This weekend will be the final tune-up before the HCAC championship meet on Saturday, October 31.
