Sol Stephens Named Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. -- Anderson University has named Sol Stephens to be its next head coach for cross country and track and field.

Stephens comes to AU after spending the last four years as an assistant track and field coach at Marian University in Indianapolis.

A graduate of Indiana University, Stephens led high school track programs at Michigan City, Lawrence North and Warren Central before joining the staff at MU.

"I am excited to welcome Sol to our team of head coaches," said AU athletic director Marcie Taylor.  "His strong character, experience and passion for excellence in competition and the classroom gives me great trust in how he will lead the cross country/track and field programs".

While had Marian, he helped coach multiple All-Americans and national qualifiers. He tutored state champions at Lawrence North and Warren Central. He has been either a high school or college coach since 2003.

"I am absolutely ecstatic about joining the Raven family," Stephens said. "I greatly appreciate the opportunity presented to me by athletic director Marcie Taylor, President (John) Pistole and the committee. I want the program to be competitive yearly during the cross country and track seasons in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and create a positive, passionate and productive environment.

"My role as the head coach is to prepare our student-athletes for faith-based lifelong learning and keep in focus the student before the athlete. We want to be leaders on campus academically and socially and reach out to our alums to help foster the growth and support for the program."
