Four HCAC Softball Players Named to ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Teams
GREENWOOD , IN - Rose-Hulman's Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph , Mich. /H.S.), Franklin's Marlene Russo (Clayton, Ind./Cascade), and Manchester's Chelsea Kunkel (Bluffton, Ind./Norwell) have been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Softball team. Defiance College 's Justine Johnston (Wauseon , Ohio /H.S.) was selected to the District IV Softball first team.
Goslee, a junior pitcher for the Engineers, is majoring in Biomedical Engineering and has a 3.83 grade point average. She finished the 2009 season with a 1.46 earned run average and posted a 7-10 record with 151 strikeouts, earning a spot of the All-HCAC first team. She was a first team District V selection.
Russo, a senior outfielder for Franklin , is majoring in Chemistry and has a 3.59 GPA. She was a member of the All-HCAC first team in 2009, batting .444 with 13 doubles, six triples, and four home runs. Russo earned a third team All-District selection.
Kunkel, a senior designated player for Manchester , has a 3.57 GPA in Accounting. She held a .333 average at the plate, adding six doubles, two home runs, and a team-high 25 RBI. Kunkel was a third team selection.
Defiance 's Johnston holds a 3.83 grade point average in Elementary Education. The senior was 19-10 on the mound with a 2.33 ERA and 67 strikeouts this season, leading the Jackets to the NCAA Division III tournament.
Defiance finished 30-16 overall this season and 12-4 in the HCAC. The Jackets claimed the HCAC Tournament championship and earned a berth into the NCAA tournament.
The ESPN the Magazine All-Academic Teams are chosen by Sports Information Directors that are members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
