Softball Report (Week 1) - Defiance's Offense Powers Fast Start in Florida

GREENWOOD, IN- The 2010 softball season is in full swing as seven of the nine HCAC institutions have hit the diamond.  Defiance College is off to the best start in the league, holding a 5-1 record after the first week of action.

The Yellow Jackets (5-1, 0-0 HCAC) are currently on a spring trip in Orlando, Florida and have four more games tomorrow and Thursday before returning home to northern Ohio.  DC earned a sweep of Centre on the way to Florida and posted wins over Waynesburg, Wittenberg, and Eastern Mennonite during the first two days of play.

Senior Aarika Davis (Canton, Ohio/Canton McKinley) led the offense against Centre, hitting .667 with a triple, two home runs, and three RBI during the two-game sweep. 

Sophomore Brittany Gow (Wellington, Ohio/H.S.) added a team-high seven RBI and a home run, while batting. 500 against the Colonels.

The Jackets continue play in Orlando tomorrow with games against Chatham and Westminster (Pa.).  They will wrap up the trip with a doubleheader against Waldorf and Dubuque on Thursday afternoon.
