Softball Report (Week 7) - Transy's DeArk Tosses First Collegiate No-Hitter
GREENWOOD, IN- Transylvania remained in first place after posting a 3-1 conference mark last week. The No. 23 ranked Pioneers (24-8, 7-1 HCAC) earned a sweep of Defiance and a split with Manchester during the week. Bluffton and Anderson sit a game behind Transylvania in the loss column.
Transy's Kendra DeArk (Jeffersonville, Ind./H.S.) pitched her first collegiate no-hitter in a 2-0 win over Defiance, tallying a career-high 15 strikeouts against the Jackets. For the week, DeArk was 2-2 with a 1.22 ERA in four appearances. She had three complete games with 33 strikeouts and 13 hits allowed in 23.0 innings of work.
Offensively for the Pioneers, Megan Mitchell (Buck Creek, Ind./Wm. Henry Harrison) turned in another outstanding week at the plate. The freshman infielder finished the week 11-for-15 (.733) with three home runs, two doubles, eight RBI, six runs scored, and a 1.467 slugging percentage. Mitchell leads the HCAC in home runs with 12 and currently stands one off the Transylvania single-season record.
Transy will play their first road conference contests of the season Sunday against Hanover.
In other HCAC action...
Anderson University saw its win streak reach five in a row after posting a sweep of rival Manchester last Tuesday. The Ravens (14-10, 6-2 HCAC) won 1-0 in game one and 4-1 in game two in their only action last week. Monica Crowe (Muncie, Ind./Wes-Del) tossed a complete-game with 10 strikeouts, allowing only three hits in AU's 1-0 win. The sophomore pitched 2.1 innings in the second game to earn the save. Anderson faces nationally ranked DePauw tonight and will face second place Bluffton on the road Saturday afternoon.
Rose-Hulman earned a split with Mount St. Joseph on Sunday and currently occupies the fourth and final spot in the conference tournament race. The Engineers (12-10, 7-3 HCAC) dropped game one 6-4 and rebounded to win the second contest by the same score. Allison Faber (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) was 4-for-6 at the plate with one double, a .750 on base average, and a .833 slugging percentage against the Lions. Rose will play host to Defiance Saturday before heading north to face Bluffton on Sunday afternoon.
