LEXINGTON, KY - Transylvania's
slugging freshman third baseman Megan Mitchell capped a
remarkable first season by being chosen to the Louisville
Slugger-National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America third
team.
NFCA Division III All-American team
Mitchell, who was the Heartland Conference Player of the Year after setting school records with 17 home runs and 60 runs batted in, was the third baseman on the third team. She is the first Transy softball player to earn NCAA Division III All-America honors.
Earlier this week, she was chosen for the NFCA All-Central Region squad.
Mitchell is from Buck Creek, Ind., and is a graduate of William Henry Harrison High School.
Mitchell posted a .492 batting average in her first season as a Pioneer. In addition to leading the team in homers and RBI, she had a team-high 49 runs with a slugging percentage of .977. She reached base at a .588 clip and received a school-record 14 intentional walks.
She was the only player from the HCAC to make one of the three All-America teams. Central Region champion DePauw also had a player on the third team.
