GREENWOOD, IN- Transylvania
University remained in striking distance of Defiance after a
perfect 4-0 mark in league play over the weekend. The
Pioneers (12-11-1, 5-1 HCAC) earned decisive sweeps at Bluffton and
Manchester to run their win streak to five in a row.
Transy's Anne Broadhead (Booneville, Ind./H.S.) and Michelle Ladanyi (Winchester, Ky./Clark Co.) paced the offense as the Pioneers totaled 38 runs in the four victories.
Broadhead finished 10-for-18 (.556) at the plate during the weekend, adding eight runs scored, two doubles, a triple, and four RBI. Ladanyi provided a team-high seven RBI with a home run, two doubles, and four runs scored.
Senior pitcher Kendra DeArk (Jeffersonville, Ind./H.S.) earned a 2-0 record in the circle, posting a victory over BU and MC.
DeArk posted a 1.00 earned run average on her way to two complete game victories. DeArk tossed 14.0 innings during the week with only 10 hits allowed, two earned runs, and 15 strikeouts, while limiting the opposition to a .192 average at the plate.
TU continues HCAC play this week as the Pioneers travel to Mount St. Joseph and Franklin for doubleheaders. The Pioneers will also face Trine Sunday afternoon.
