Softball Report (Week 1) - RHIT Starts Season with 8 Game Florida Trip

GREENWOOD, IN- The 2012 softball season is in full swing as four of the nine HCAC squads have hit the diamond.  Rose-Hulman traveled down to Florida for an eight game trip and returned to Terre Haute with a 2-6 record.

The Engineers (2-6, 0-0 HCAC) finished the trip to Clermont, Florida with two victories.  RHIT posted wins over Johnson & Wales (RI) and Concordia (MN) during the five day trip.

Freshman Jessica Ahlborn (Houghton, Mich./Houghton-Portage Twp.) led the Engineers during the trip, finishing the week 5-for-14 (.357) with two runs scored, two doubles, and four RBI, while posting an on-base percentage of .471.

On the mound, junior pitcher Brianne Widmoyer (Elkhart, Ind./Central) finished the week 2-2, tossing four complete games and one shutout in four starts. Widmoyer tossed a complete game two-hitter against Johnson & Wales in a 4-0 win, ending the week with 18 strikeouts and a 2.59 earned run average in 27 innings of work.

The Engineers return to action this weekend at the Centre March Mayhem Tournament in Danville, Kentucky.
