Softball Report (Week 5) - Transy Sweeps RHIT for 5th Straight Win
GREENWOOD, IN- Transylvania University went 4-0 during the week and now stands 5-1 in league play. The Pioneers (12-10-1, 5-1 HCAC) have won five straight and have posted victories in nine of their past 10 contests.
Transy earned doubleheader sweeps of Thomas More and Rose-Hulman on the road during the week. TU beat the Saints 5-4 and 5-2, while earning 5-4 and 9-4 wins over the Engineers.
Junior shortstop Megan Mitchell (West Lafayette, Ind./William Henry Harrison) led the Pioneers during the week, going 7-for-13 (.538) at the plate. Mitchell had a home run and three doubles, driving in four runs and scoring six. She posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and an on-base rate of .600.
In the circle, freshman Elizabeth Young (Louisville, Ky./North Oldham) finished the week with three victories and a save for the Pioneers. The freshman pitched 18.1 innings, while allowing 14 hits and three earned runs with 11 strikeouts in four appearances.
Young had a complete game eight-hitter in a 5-2 win over Thomas More and then combined to go 10.1 innings with two wins in the Rose-Hulman doubleheader to end the week with a 1.15 earned run average.
Young earned the save in TU's 5-4 win over Thomas More, pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
Transylvania will play host to Franklin this afternoon and travel north to Anderson Saturday.
