Anderson Captures Second-Straight HCAC Softball Tournament Title
ANDERSON, IN – The Anderson University softball team captured the 2012 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second consecutive year. The Ravens defeated Manchester 6-3 in the championship game held at Anderson, becoming the first HCAC softball program to finish the regular season and tournament unblemished.
Anderson completed the tournament with a 3-0 record behind a pair of victories from pitcher Monica Crowe (Muncie, Ind./Wes-Del). In the final contest, Crowe tossed 6.2 innings and scattered five hits with three walks and five strikeouts to move to 18-2 on the season.
The Ravens took the lead with five runs in the fourth inning and never looked back. Sophomore outfielder Katie Lee (Anderson, Ind./Highland) led the Ravens at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run scored and a two RBI.
For Manchester (21-23), Kylie Planck (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler) led the offense in the loss, finishing 1-for-4 with a home run.
Anderson improved to 30-10 on the season and advances to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second time in as many years. The NCAA tournament begins next Thursday at regional sites to be announced Monday afternoon.
