GREENWOOD, IN - Bluffton University ran its win streak to six-straight after a pair of HCAC sweeps last week. The Beavers (15-11, 7-1 HCAC) finished the week 4-0 after taking a pair of doubleheaders over Defiance and Mount St. Joseph and currently sit atop the HCAC standings at 7-1.
Sophomore Katie Clark (New Palestine, Ind./H.S.) led the BU offense during the week, finishing 9-for-15 (.600) at the plate with seven RBI, four runs scored, one double, one triple, and a stolen base. At MSJ on Saturday, Clark was 6-for-8, including a 4-for-4 performance with the RBI in game two of the double dip.
In the circle, sophomore Chloe Shell (Covington, Ohio/H.S.) led the Bluffton pitching staff, tallying two wins and a save during the week. Shell totaled 15.0 innings pitched, allowing 19 hits and six earned runs with one strikeout.
The first place Beavers have an important meeting with Anderson this afternoon and will close the week at home against Franklin Saturday.
In other action...
Hanover (9-11, 4-2 HCAC) sits all alone in second place in the standings after going 3-1 last week. The Panthers swept rival Franklin and earned a split with Manchester.
Sophomore Leah Kemmerer (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings Co.) led the offense, reaching base seven times in four games. Kemmerer hit one home run with eight RBI and three runs scored, while knocking in the game-winning runs at Franklin.
The Panthers will square off with Transylvania and Rose-Hulman this week.
Manchester (13-9, 5-3 HCAC), Transylvania (7-17, 5-3 HCAC), and Anderson (12-8, 3-3 HCAC) all sit with three losses in league play. The Spartans went 3-3 last week, while Anderson went 2-2 and Transy 3-1 in conference action.
