Softball Report (Week 7) - Manchester Climbs into HCAC Tourney Picture

GREENWOOD, IN- Defending HCAC champion Manchester climbed back into the race for a HCAC tournament berth with a 4-2 mark in league action last week.  The Spartans (9-15, 6-6 HCAC) split with Defiance and Transylvania prior to a sweep of Mount St. Joseph Sunday.

Sophomore MacKenzie Williams (Kendallville, Ind.) led the Spartans' offense during the three doubleheaders.  The sophomore led MU with 11 hits, two home runs, and 10 RBI during the week. 

Williams also came up big on the mound for Manchester.  Williams posted a 1-0 record in three starts, including a complete-game win over Defiance Wednesday. 

Manchester will host Bluffton in a conference doubleheader Wednesday.

In other HCAC action...

Anderson remained perfect in conference play following a sweep of Bluffton.  The No. 21 ranked Ravens (18-5, 8-0 HCAC) beat Bluffton 9-4 and 5-2 to stay ahead of the Beavers in the standings.  AU ended the week with a 1-3 record over the weekend at Illinois Wesleyan.  Anderson split with the host Titans and suffered losses to Washington-St. Louis and Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Bluffton bounced back from the losses to Anderson to earn a sweep of Franklin Saturday.  The Beavers (18-10, 8-4 HCAC) occupy the No. 2 spot in the standings heading into the final few weeks of play. Brittany Baker (Springboro, Ohio/H.S.) finished the week 10-for-16 (.625) with five runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI, two stolen bases, and a 1.125 slugging percentage to lead BU. Baker went 7-for-10 at Franklin with 10 RBI and four runs scored, including a pair of home runs against the Grizzlies.

Rose-Hulman (12-8, 6-4 HCAC) posted splits with Franklin and Hanover over the weekend.  The Engineers also earned a non-conference sweep of Greenville.  Sophomore Taylor Lockhart (Robinson, Ill./Oblong) finished 2-0 with two shutouts in two starts and a 0.78 earned run average in three appearances during the week.  Lockhart allowed 14 hits with six strikeouts in 18 innings, holding the opponents to a .209 average. 

Transylvania (11-19, 5-5 HCAC) also moved up the standings following a 4-2 record last week.   The Pioneers split with Hanover and Manchester and earned a sweep of Mount St. Joseph.  Freshman Krista DeBurger (Pendleton, Ky./Henry Co.) finished the week 6-for-12 (.500) with six runs, three home runs, and nine RBI.
