Women's Basketball Report (Week 10) - Hanover Holds Top Spot in League Standings
GREENWOOD, IN - The Hanover College (15-1, 9-1 HCAC) women's basketball team responded after suffering their first loss of the season with a pair of league wins. The Panthers took care of business, defeating Rose-Hulman and Manchester to remain one game ahead of second place Transylvania in the standings.
The week began with a decisive 59-30 win at home over Rose-Hulman Wednesday night. The Panthers stormed out to a 29-11 halftime lead and limited the visiting Engineers to 28.1% shooting from the floor in the win. Senior guard Torin Franz (Bloomington, Ind./South) led all scorers with 15 points.
Hanover had a much tougher test on the road against Manchester Saturday as the Panthers pulled out a last second 70-68 win against the Spartans. Junior guard Abbey Schmahl (Aurora, Ind./South Dearborn) hit a jumper with six seconds remaining to deliver the victory to the Panthers. Senior center Molly Martin (Terre Haute, Ind./North) turned in a season-high 23 points with 14 rebounds as HC held on for the win.
The Panthers currently hold a one game lead over Transylvania in the race for the conference crown. The two squads will meet tomorrow evening at Hanover as the Panthers look for the season sweep of the Pioneers.
Hanover defeated Transy 63-59 in Lexington to begin the conference schedule.
