Women's Basketball Report (Week 7) - HC's Streak Reaches 10 After Holiday Break
GREENWOOD, IN - Hanover College (10-0, 4-0 HCAC) continued its success with four non-conference wins over the holiday break. The Panthers earned wins over Roanoke and Heidelberg in Las Vegas before notching two more victories over Wittenberg and Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Hanover opened holiday play with a 76-61 win over Roanoke in the Las Vegas Hoopla. Senior center Molly Martin (Terre Haute, Ind./North) scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Panthers in the win.
Martin and Torin Franz (Bloomington, Ind./South) each reached scoring milestones in Hanover’s 68-52 victory against Heidelberg in Vegas.
Martin scored 16 points to become the leading scorer in Hanover women’s basketball history with 1,534 career points. She also grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds to become the first player in school history to reach the 900-rebound mark (911).
Franz, who has reached double figures in all eight games this season, led the Panthers with 20 points. With the effort, she became the 12th player in school history to score more than 1,000 career points (1,003).
HC posted a 64-60 win over host Wittenberg in the opening game of the Charles Zimmerman Memorial Classic. The Panthers erased a 14 point deficit to stay unblemished on the season. Martin led all scorers with 18 points and also added a game-high 16 rebounds in the win.
Hanover stretched the best start in school history to 10 games with a 71-70 triumph against Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the second game of the Charles Zimmerman Memorial Classic. The squads were tied twice and swapped the lead four times in the final 90 seconds of action. Martin led the Hanover scoring once again, netting 15 points with seven rebounds in the triumph.
Hanover returns to the court tomorrow night as the Panthers welcome Bluffton for a 6:00 PM tip.
