Women's Basketball Report (Week 12) - Transy Runs Win Streak to Three-Straight
GREENWOOD, IN - Transylvania University (11-10, 9-5 HCAC) turned in a 2-0 mark in league play this week and saw its win streak reach three in a row. The Pioneers stand fourth in the league standings after defeating Earlham and Rose-Hulman on the road.
In an 84-80 win in Richmond over Earlham, the Pioneers scored a season high 84 points on 44.1% shooting. Freshman guard Nicole Coffman (Liberty, Ky./Casey Co.) led all scorers with 23 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
Transy capped off the week with a decisive 60-42 win at Rose-Hulman Saturday. Coffman led the way once again, netting 14 points with six rebounds and three assists against the Engineers.
Transylvania will look to continue its move up the standings in the season's final few weeks as the Pioneers face Mount St. Joseph and Manchester this week.
In other action...
No. 14 Franklin College (20-1, 13-1 HCAC) continued its hold of the HCAC lead with two important wins last week. The Grizzlies pulled away from rival Hanover in the second half, earning a 70-50 win on Wednesday. FC capped off the week with a 66-51 road win over Manchester Saturday.
Senior guard Sarah Condra (Nineveh, Ind./Whiteland) scored a game and career-high 30 points, on 11-of-21 shooting, with two assists, a block, and four steals in FC's win at Manchester Saturday.
Condra netted 20 points with four rebounds and three assists against Hanover earlier in the week. The senior averaged 25.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game, while shooting 57.6% from the field during the two tilts.
The blue and gold hold a one game lead over Hanover in the standings with four games remaining on the schedule. The Grizzlies will face Rose-Hulman and Anderson on the road this week.
Hanover (16-4, 12-2 HCAC) and Manchester (14-7, 10-4 HCAC) clinched a spot in the upcoming six-team HCAC tournament with wins last week.
The Panthers bounced back after the loss to Franklin to defeat Earlham 80-52, while Manchester handed Defiance a 41-34 decision on Wednesday.
Three tournament spots remain up for grabs with two weeks remaining on the regular season schedule.
