Women's Basketball Report (Week 5) - Manchester Improves to 3-1 in League Play
GREENWOOD, IN - Manchester University (3-5, 3-1 HCAC) moved to 3-1 in HCAC play following a 61-59 home win over Mount St. Joseph Saturday. The game was the Spartans only contest last week.
Junior forward Erynn Meiklejohn (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia) tallied her third career double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds in the win over the Lions.
Meiklejohn hit the game-tying and eventual game-winning free throws with 18 seconds left to lift the black and gold into third place in the HCAC standings.
Manchester will face Trine this evening before traveling to California for a pair of contests over the holiday break.
In other action...
Transylvania University (6-2, 4-0 HCAC) remained unblemished in the conference standings following a 63-52 win at Bluffton. The Pios saw their six game win streak come to a close last night, falling to Muskingum 68-60 in the Transylvania Pat Deacon Classic.
Sophomore guard Nicole Coffman (Liberty, Ky./Casey Co.) scored 17 points with five rebounds in the win over the Beavers Saturday. Coffman also led Transy in the loss to Muskingum, netting 18 points with five steals.
Defiance College (5-3, 4-0 HCAC) kept pace with the Pioneers in the standings, earning a 59-51 win over Franklin. Senior center Kim Comden (Defiance, Ohio/Ayersville) scored 16 points, hauled in 14 rebounds, and tallied six blocks in the win.
