Women's Basketball Report (Week 8) - Franklin Climbs Standings Following Pair of Wins

GREENWOOD, IN - Franklin College finished the week with a 2-0 conference record and moved within a game of the league lead.  The Grizzlies (10-3, 4-2 HCAC) won a pair of road contests, knocking off Transylvania and Anderson.

Senior guard Lindsay Rich (Logansport, Ind./H.S.) led the blue and gold's effort during the week. Rich scored a career-high 19 points with three rebounds, three assists, and four steals in FC's 63-53 win at Anderson on Saturday. 

In a 68-65 win at Transylvania Wednesday, Rich added 16 points with nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals. 

For the week, the Logansport native averaged 17.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game while shooting 70.6% (12-17) from the field and 100% (11-11) from the free throw line.

Franklin has won four straight contests and will face Mount St. Joseph and Manchester at home this week.

In other action...

Transylvania (9-4, 5-1 HCAC) bounced back following the loss to Franklin, defeating Defiance 65-53.  Freshman guard Katelyn Smith (Hazard, Ky./Perry Co. Central) led the Pioneers with 23 points as Defiance (8-5, 5-1 HCAC) suffered its first league loss of the season. 

Transy and DC sit atop the league standings with a 5-1 league record.

Hanover (10-3, 4-2 HCAC) kept pace with Franklin after a pair of home wins over Bluffton and Mount St. Joseph.   The Panthers have won four straight and will face first place Transylvania Wednesday.

Rose-Hulman (6-7, 2-4 HCAC) won its first two league tilts last week, knocking off Earlham and Mount St. Joseph on the road. The Engineers will look for a third straight road win at Anderson tomorrow evening.
