Women's Basketball Report (Week 13) - Pioneers Move One Win Away from HCAC Top Seed

GREENWOOD, IN - The Transylvania University women's basketball team moved within one win of clinching a share of the HCAC title and top seed in next weekend's HCAC tournament.  The Pioneers (18-5, 14-2 HCAC) defeated Mount St. Joseph and Manchester to inch one step closer to capturing the league title.

Sophomore guard Nicole Coffman (Liberty, Ky./Casey Co.) scored 22 points with five rebounds as the Pioneers defeated Mount St. Joseph 96-51 Wednesday. In Saturday's 57-49 comeback win at Manchester, Coffman netted 27 points with three assists and two steals. 

For the week, Coffman averaged 24.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, while shooting 47.2% from the field. 

Transylvania can lock up a share of the league title and the top seed in the upcoming HCAC tournament with a win at Hanover Wednesday or at home against Bluffton Saturday.

In other action...

Franklin (19-4, 13-3 HCAC) remained alive in the race for the league title with a pair of wins last week. The Grizzlies beat Rose-Hulman 45-32 on Wednesday evening before pulling out a double overtime win over Anderson, 78-75.  FC is scheduled to close out the regular season schedule against Mount St. Joseph and Defiance this week.  A single win will clinch a bye in the league tournament.

Hanover (17-6, 11-5 HCAC) fell out of the title race after suffering a 63-58 loss at Anderson Wednesday.  The Panthers are in the tournament field and close the regular season at home against Transylvania and Rose-Hulman.

Defiance (14-9, 11-5 HCAC) also secured a postseason tournament spot last week.  The Jackets earned a pair of wins over Earlham and Rose-Hulman to lock up a bid.  DC will close the regular season on the road against Bluffton and Franklin.

Rose-Hulman (11-12, 7-9 HCAC), Manchester (8-15, 7-9 HCAC), Bluffton (11-12, 6-10 HCAC), and Anderson (7-16, 6-10 HCAC) are still battling for the final two spots in the tournament field.

The Engineers and Spartans can clinch a spot in the field with a win and a Bluffton loss Wednesday evening.
