INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Hanover College claimed the HCAC automatic qualifier and will play Ohio Northern on Friday, March 1 in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Panthers captured the HCAC’s bid to the dance with an 83-66 win over Transylvania in the HCAC tournament championship game.
Hanover, 21-7, will travel to Holland, Michigan on the campus of Hope College to face Ohio Northern (26-1). The Polar Bears captured the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) tournament title with a 73-46 win over Otterbein Saturday, earning the league’s automatic bid.
Ohio Northern enters the game riding a 25-game win streak, while the Panthers enter NCAA postseason play with five wins in their last six games.
The Panthers are making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2011 and third overall appearance in school history. Ohio Northern is making its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its first since 1989
The winner of the Hanover vs. Ohio Northern game will play the winner of the Hope (26-1) vs. Wheaton (IL) (22-5) matchup Saturday, March 2 in Holland, Michigan.
Hanover was the only HCAC team selected to the women's tournament this year.
