GREENWOOD, IN - The Rose-Hulman women's basketball team snapped first place Transylvania's eight game win streak Saturday afternoon. The Engineers (11-10, 7-7 HCAC) beat the host Pioneers, 59-58, to earn their fifth straight league win.
In Saturday's win, freshman forward Addie Johnson (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) led the Engineers with 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists. The Rose defense locked down on the high powered Transy offense, allowing the hosts to shoot only 36% from the field.
On Wednesday, Rose-Hulman earned a 52-44 win at home over Anderson. Johnson once again led the scoring with 15 points, three rebounds, and six assists in 31 minutes of action.
With the current five game win streak, the Engineers currently stand alongside Manchester for fifth place in the league standings with four games remaining.
Rose will travel to Franklin and Defiance this week.
In other action...
Transylvania (16-5, 12-2 HCAC) finished the week with a 1-1 record and currently holds a one game lead in the HCAC standings over Franklin.
The Pioneers beat Earlham 73-57 on Wednesday evening before suffering the one point loss to Rose-Hulman Saturday. Sophomore guard Nicole Coffman (Liberty, Ky./Casey Co.) led the scoring in both contests, netting 25 points in the win over Earlham and adding 26 in the win over Rose-Hulman.
Franklin (17-4, 11-3 HCAC) earned wins over rival Hanover and Manchester on the road this week to remain in striking distance of a league title.
The Grizzlies have won three in a row since a January 23rd loss at home to Transylvania. The blue and gold have secured a spot in the upcoming HCAC tournament and will host Rose-Hulman and Anderson this week.
Hanover (16-5, 10-4 HCAC) also secured a postseason tournament spot last week. The Panthers bounced back from Wednesday's loss to Franklin with a 67-50 win at Earlham. HC remains two games behind Transy in the chase for a HCAC title.
