GREENWOOD, IN - Bluffton University improved to 4-2 in the HCAC standings following a 2-0 week. The Beavers (8-5, 4-2 HCAC) won at home over Mount St. Joseph and Hanover and have now won six of their past seven contests.
In Bluffton's 78-64 win over Mount St. Joseph, BU jumped out to a 21 point advantage at the break. Freshman center Rachel Beining (Ottoville, Ohio/H.S.) led the effort with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
On Saturday, Bluffton ended a nine-game skid to Hanover thanks to an 81-71 victory at home. Six different players reached double figures in the win as BU moved into third place in the HCAC standings.
Bluffton will travel to rival Defiance Wednesday and first place Transylvania Saturday afternoon.
In other action...
Transylvania University (12-1, 6-0 HCAC) continued its strong play with two wins last week. The Pioneers have won 11 straight and stand atop the league standings with a perfect 6-0 mark following wins over Hanover and Manchester.
Senior guard Madisen Webb (Georgetown, Ky./Scott Co.) posted a triple-double with 16 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds in the Pioneers 103-91 win at Hanover. The effort with the first triple-double in the HCAC since 2011 and the 12 assists tied a single-game HCAC record. Webb added 12 points, four rebounds, and five assists in a 75-63 win over Manchester.
Franklin College (7-6, 5-1 HCAC) sits second in the standings at 5-1. The Grizzlies were victorious over Manchester and Anderson on the road this week. Freshman guard Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) scored 19 points with 11 rebounds in the win at Manchester, while adding 21 points with five three-point field goals in the win at Anderson.
