TERRE HAUTE,  Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will travel to St. Louis to face Wheaton (Ill.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament on Friday night, in pairings released by the NCAA on Monday.

Rose-Hulman and Wheaton (Ill.) will square off at 5:30 p.m. Central Time on Friday in the NCAA Tournament First Round Game at Washington University (Mo.).  The winner will advance to the second round, which takes place Saturday at 7 p.m. Central Time.

Rose-Hulman stands 24-3 on the season and enters the NCAA Tournament with a 14-game winning streak.  The Fightin' Engineers are making their first trip to the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament after winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Game 50-40 over Transylvania University on Saturday at Hulbert Arena.

Wheaton has a 23-4 record and enters the NCAA Tournament on an eight-game winning streak.  The Thunder defeated Illinois Wesleyan to capture the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship on Saturday to secure their NCAA Tournament bid.  Rose-Hulman has played three CCIW teams this season, recording wins over North Central and North Park along with a loss to Illinois Wesleyan.

Rose-Hulman has won back-to-back HCAC regular season championships, earning an outright title in 2017 after capturing a co-championship in 2016.  The Fightin' Engineers have the second longest current winning streak in NCAA Division III Women's Basketball at 25 games, behind only the 62 games of defending national champion Thomas More.

Head coach Jon Prevo has led the team to a new school record with 24 victories this season, due in large part to one of the nation's best defenses.  The Fightin' Engineers entered last weekend ranked No. 4 nationally in scoring defense (45.7 ppg) and No. 7 in field goal percentage defense (31.1%).

Rose-Hulman's defense has held its opponent to under 50 points for 10 consecutive games.  The team has held the opponent under 50 points on 18 total occasions this season.

The winner of Friday night's game will advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament second round of 32 with a contest in St. Louis on Saturday night.  The winner of Rose-Hulman/Wheaton will face either host Washington University (Mo.) or St. Norbert on Saturday at 7 p.m. Central Time.

Ticket prices have been set at $7 for adults and $5 for students (with student ID), seniors, and children.  The tournament also includes sectional rounds on Mar. 10-11, before the Women's Basketball National Championship is held at Calvin College on Mar. 17-18.
