Franklin Edges Transylvania for HCAC Womens Golf Title

LEXINGTON, KY - Franklin College's women's golf team held off host Transylvania by two strokes Sunday afternoon to claim the school's 11th HCAC women's golf title and the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA championships to be held in May. The Grizzlies totaled a 676 on the team leader board, finishing two strokes ahead of second place Transylvania, who finished with a 678.
Transylvania's Megan Foley (Lexington, Ky./Christian) earned medalist and HCAC Most Valuable Player honors for the first time. Foley finished with a 155, posting a 77 and a 78 in her two rounds.
Franklin College placed four members on the All-HCAC team. Natalie Daugherty (Vevay, Ind./Switzerland Co.) and Brittany Stephens (Whiteland, Ind./H.S.) finished in a tie for third place overall with a two-day total of 164. Grace Adams (Ossian, Ind./Norwell) and Samantha Marshall (Plainfield, Ind./Cascade) also tied at the tournament, finishing in a tie for seventh with a total of 174.
The second place Pioneers placed two other members on the All-HCAC team, joining medalist Megan Foley. Sophomore Janca Millett (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) placed second overall with a two-round total of 162, while Megan Graeter (Louisville, Ky./Butler) placed fifth (171).
Joining Foley, Millett, Daugherty, Stephens, Graeter, Adams, and Marshall on the All-HCAC team by virtue of finishing in the top eight of the individual standings was Hanover's Molly Burpo (Martinsville Ind./H.S.). The sophomore placed sixth at the championships with a total of 173.
Hanover's Rebecca Roberts (Avon, Ind./H.S.) earned the Freshman of the Year award for her efforts as the top finishing freshman. Roberts finished 14th with a two-day total of 184.
Rose-Hulman placed third in the tournament with a total score of 730. Hanover was awarded fourth place on Sunday, shooting a 737. Manchester, Anderson, Mount St. Joseph and Defiance rounded out the team standings, firing a 742, 788, 872, and 886 respectively.
Franklin head coach Roger Lundy was also honored by being named the HCAC Coach of the Year for the third time.
