Women's Golf Report (Week 3) - Hanover Earns Title at Transylvania Fall Classic

GREENWOOD, IN - The Hanover women's golf team claimed the top spot at the Transylvania Fall Classic last week.  The Panthers earned the title at the University Club in Lexington by a single shot over the host Pioneers.  The event featured five HCAC schools and was held on the same course the conference championships will be held on October 10-11.

Freshman Becky Roberts (Avon, Ind./H.S.) led Hanover with a third place finish, firing a round of 82.  Sophomore Molly Burpo (Martinsville, Ind./H.S.) finished fourth with a round of 88.

Transylvania's Megan Foley (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Christian) earned medalist honors with a round of 77, leading the Pioneers to a second place finish.  Franklin College, Rose-Hulman, and Mount St. Joseph rounded out the team standings.

Manchester College placed third this past Saturday at the Manchester College Invitational.  The event included Anderson, Mount St. Joseph, Defiance, and Franklin's B & C teams.  Manchester's Chelsea Johnson (Jamestown, Western Boone) was the top HCAC finisher, firing a one-round 87.

Franklin and Rose-Hulman competed at the two-day Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic on Saturday and Sunday.  The Grizzlies finished 10th, while Rose-Hulman placed 16th in the 18 team event.  Franklin's Natalie Daugherty (Vevay, Ind./Switzerland Co.) led the Grizzlies with a two-round total 162 (83-79).  The Engineers were paced by Stephanie Harrington's (Houston, Tex./Cinco Ranch) total of 175 (84-91).

The busy week of action concluded with Defiance hosting Mount St. Joseph in the five-team Defiance Invitational Monday.  The host Jackets finished fourth in the event, while Mount St. Joseph placed fifth.  Mount's Megan Dickman (Batesville, Ind./Oldenburg Academy) led the competing HCAC golfers with a ninth place finish (89).

This weekend, Anderson, Franklin, Hanover, Manchester, and Rose-Hulman will travel to Greencastle, Ind. for the DePauw Invitational, while Defiance heads to Heidelberg and Mount St. Joseph participates at Capital.
