ANDERSON, IN – The 2010 women’s golf season will come to a close this weekend, as the HCAC women hit the links on Saturday and Sunday to determine the conference champion.  The winner of this weekend’s tournament will receive the conference’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship held May 10-13 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.

This year’s HCAC tournament will be hosted by Anderson and held at the 5,804 yard par 72 Anderson Country Club in Anderson, Indiana.

Transylvania’s Megan Foley (Lexington, Ky./Christian) looks to defend her individual title this weekend.  Foley fired a two-round total of 155, holding off Transy’s Janca Millett (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) by seven strokes.  Hanover’s Paige Schroeder (Jasper, Ind./H.S.) holds the conference’s best scoring average this fall (80.8) and will look to earn the title away from Foley.  As a team, the Pioneers placed second last season as Franklin claimed the conference title.

The Grizzlies will look to repeat as conference champion, but will have to deal with a Hanover squad that places all five of their golfers among the HCAC scoring leaders.  Franklin golfers hold three of the top ten spots in scoring average this season with only one golfer placing outside the top 15.

Hanover will try for their first conference crown and dethrone rival Franklin after finishing fourth a year ago.  Junior Molly Burpo (Martinsville, Ind./H.S.) ranks fourth with an 82.1 round average, while sophomore Becky Roberts (Avon, Ind./H.S.) has posted an eighth-best 84.1 average.  Freshman Sloane Hamilton (Mason, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) ranks 10th overall in scoring average this fall, averaging 85.9 strokes per round.

The top eight finishers after the two rounds are complete will earn All-HCAC honors.  The top freshman finisher after Sunday’s second round will receive the Freshman of the Year award.  Action will get underway Saturday and Sunday morning at 11:00 AM.
