GREENWOOD, IN – The 2015 HCAC women’s golf fall season will come to a close this weekend, as the women hit the links on Saturday and Sunday to determine the conference champion. The winner of this weekend’s tournament will receive the conference’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship held May 10-13.
This year’s HCAC tournament will be hosted by Mount St. Joseph University and held at the 5,833 yard par 72 Aston Oaks Golf Club in North Bend, Ohio.
Hanover enters the tournament as the two-time defending league champions. The Panthers won the championship by 30 strokes over second place Rose-Hulman last fall, firing a HCAC record two-day total of 643. Hanover will look to defending HCAC MVP Erika Shepherd (Jeffersonville, Ind./H.S.) to lead the charge this weekend. Shepherd is averaging a HCAC-best 80.2 strokes per round this fall. The Panthers have seven golfers ranking in the top 15 of the HCAC scoring list.
Rose-Hulman will strive to dethrone the Panthers from the top of the HCAC and claim its first conference title. The Engineers have four golfers ranking in the top 15 of the HCAC scoring lists this fall. Sophomore Ashton Foushee (Glasgow, Ky./H.S.) ranks third in the HCAC in scoring average with an average of 83.8. Senior Hayley Vonder Haar (Highland, Ill./H.S.) ranks fifth in the league with an average of 84.2.
The top eight finishers after the two rounds are complete will earn All-HCAC honors. The top freshman finisher after Sunday’s second round will receive the Freshman of the Year award. Action will get underway Saturday at 11:30 AM and Sunday morning at 9:30 AM.
