GREENWOOD, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman women's golf team participated in the Millikin Invitational over the weekend and defeated the five-team field with a 36-hole total of 629 strokes.
The Fightin' Engineers held off NCAA Division II McKendree by five strokes and were led by freshman Caitlin Coverstone (Longview, Texas / Trinity). Coverstone placed second individually at the Milllikin Invitational last weekend. The freshman set school records for 18 holes (73) and 36 holes (151) to help Rose-Hulman win the invite.
Transylvania University participated in the Montgomery C.C. Intercollegiate in Montgomery, Ala. and placed sixth as a team. The Pioneers were led by junior Jenna Soderling (Central City, Ky. / Muhlenberg Co.) who shot a two-over par 75 in the second round of last the event. The junior totaled a two-round score of 157 to finish in a tie for 8th place on the individual leaderboard against a field of 50 total golfers. Soderling shot just one-over par for the weekend on all par-3 holes and all par-5 holes.
On Saturday, Franklin and Hanover competed in the Grizzly Fall Invitational. Hanover defeated the field with a 18-hole score of 342, and Franklin followed in second place with a total of 374 strokes.
The rest of the weekend was highlighted by the Earlham Invitational where five HCAC institutions competed in. Manchester placed third (753), Mount St. Joseph followed in fourth (763), Earlham finished in fifth place (773), and Defiance placed sixth (824) to round out the HCAC teams scores at the event. Bluffton University did not post a team score.
This weekend the HCAC Women's Golf Championships will be hosted by Transylvania University in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
