Women's Soccer Report (Week 1) - Hanover Stands as Only Unbeaten After First Weekend
GREENWOOD, IN - The Hanover women's soccer team netted two victories to begin the 2009 season and stand as the only unbeaten team in the conference after the first week of play. The Panthers outscored their opponents 11-0 on the weekend, earning a 4-0 win against Eureka and a 7-0 decisive win over Knox.
Junior midfielder Lindsey Jump (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview) was the standout performer for the Panthers on the weekend, scoring three goals on the weekend.
Defiance College holds a 2-1 mark after the first week of play and posted two wins at the Defiance Invitational. The Jackets blanked Finlandia 8-0 and Rochester (Mich.) 2-0 on the weekend.
Junior forward Cherilyn Borkholder (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview) scored a hat trick against Finlandia and recorded an assist against Rochester to lead the Yellow Jackets to their first ever DC Classic Championship. Borkholder was selected to the All-Tournament Team and voted the MVP for the Yellow Jackets.
