Women's Soccer Report (Week 8) - Earlham in Driver's Seat for Top Seed
GREENWOOD, IN - Earlham College holds the inside track to earning the conference's top seed in next week's four team HCAC tournament. The Quakers (11-4-1, 6-1 HCAC) defeated Defiance 2-0 and Manchester 6-0 to remain in a three-way tie with Transy and Mount for first place.
Senior forward Karman Duchon (Decatur, Ga./H.S.) tallied two goals and four assists during the week. The senior scored a goal and added an assist in EC’s 2-0 win over Defiance and scored a goal with three assists in a 6-0 shutout win over Manchester.
Earlham faces Rose-Hulman and Franklin this week and can earn the top seed in next week's tournament with a pair of wins.
Transylvania notched two shutout wins last week to remain alive for a conference title. The Pioneers (12-3-1, 6-1 HCAC) earned an important 1-0 win over Hanover early in the week before handing Franklin a 5-0 decision Saturday.
Sophomore midfielder Ashley Cobane (Nicholasville, Ky./West Jessamine) had two goals and one assist in Transy’s 5-0 win over Franklin.
Mount St. Joseph kept pace with Earlham and Transy with wins over Franklin and Defiance. The Lions (7-7-2, 6-1 HCAC) have won four straight games heading into the final week of the regular season. MSJ welcomes Transylvania to Cincinnati Wednesday evening in an important seeding matchup.
Hanover fell out of the first place tie with a 1-0 loss to Transylvania. The Panthers (9-6-1, 5-2 HCAC) rebounded to defeat Anderson 2-0 to stay within a game of first place. HC needs a pair of wins this week or a win and a Bluffton loss to lock down a tournament bid.
Bluffton still has hope to earn a spot in the four team tournament field. The Beavers (7-8-1, 4-3 HCAC) have won four consecutive league matches heading into the final week after shutout wins over Manchester and Rose-Hulman last week. BU needs two more wins to make the tournament, including a win over Hanover Saturday.
