GREENWOOD, IN – The Earlham College women’s soccer program earned a share of the HCAC Championship, claiming the first conference title in school history in any women’s sport and securing the top seed for the conference tournament.  The Quakers tied with Transylvania University at the top of the standings with 8-1 records.  The top-seed Quakers are playing great soccer heading into tournament play, posting an 11-2-1 record in their last 14 games.  Earlham will battle No. 4 seeded Hanover in one semifinal, while second seeded Transylvania will host No. 3 Mount St. Joseph in the second semifinal.

Earlham finished the regular season with an 8-1 mark in conference play and a 13-5-1 overall record.  The Quakers secured the top seed in the conference tournament with a 3-0 win over Franklin Sunday afternoon.  Sophomore midfielder Joy Doucette (Berwyn Heights, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) netted a pair of goals to lead EC over the Grizzlies and earn the top seed.

Earlham and Hanover (11-6-1, 7-2 HCAC) met back on October 16 at Hanover as the Panthers handed the Quakers a 1-0 overtime defeat.  Senior midfielder Kristen LeBrun (Richmond, Ky./Lexington Catholic) scored the game-winner in the 96th minute of action to lead Hanover to the win.  Earlham’s Karman Duchon (Decatur, Ga./H.S.) leads the conference in points and goals scored this season, netting 15 goals and seven assists.  The winner of the 2:00 PM match-up will advance on to Saturday’s championship match.

Transylvania (14-3-1, 8-1 HCAC) and Mount St. Joseph (8-8-2, 7-2 HCAC) will meet in the second semi-final.  The Pioneers defeated the Lions 3-0 in Cincinnati on October 27.  Senior forward Kristin Tenhundfeld (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) posted a hat trick in the win over the Mount, scoring all three goals in the second half.  The conference championship was the fourth for the Pioneers and their first since the 2006 season.   Action will get underway from Lexington at 2:00 PM Tuesday.

The winner of the conference tournament will earn the conference’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III tournament that is slated to begin on November 11.  The highest remaining seed after the two semi-finals will host the conference tournament final at 1:00 PM Saturday.
