Earlham’s Duchon & Transy’s Zembrodt Headline Women’s Soccer All-HCAC Selections
GREENWOOD, IN – Earlham College’s Karman Duchon (Decatur, Ga./H.S.) and Transylvania University’s Sarah Zembrodt (Edgewood, Ky./Notre Dame) have been named the 2010 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer Offensive and Defensive Most Valuable Players. Duchon, a senior forward, helped guide the Quakers to the school’s first ever championship in a women’s sport and earn the top seed in the conference tournament. Zembrodt anchored a Pioneers defense that did not allow a single goal in two conference tournament matches, earning the HCAC’s automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
Duchon was an offensive leader for the Quakers all season long, totaling a conference-best 41 points this season. The senior led the HCAC with 17 goals scored and ranked third in the league with seven assists.
Zembrodt, a senior back for Transy, was a star on a defensive unit that allowed only 13 goals and posted 11 shutouts in 20 matches this fall, including only four goals allowed in conference play. The senior from Edgewood, Kentucky also added two goals and an assist from her defensive position this fall.
The HCAC has also announced the 2010 Freshman of the Year. Transylvania’s Amy Ghibaudy (Lexington, Ky./Catholic) earned the award for her efforts during her first season as a Pioneer. Ghibaudy was one of the top offensive stars in the HCAC this season, ranking fifth overall in points (25) and second in goals scored (12). Ghibaudy was instrumental in Transylvania sharing the regular season title and earning a HCAC tournament championship this fall.
Earlham head coach Jocelyn Keller has been named the 2010 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Keller led the Quakers to a 14-6-1 overall record and an 8-1 record in conference play, claiming a share of their first conference championship. Earlham fell to Transylvania in the conference tournament championship, missing a berth to the NCAA tournament. This is coach Keller’s first Coach of the Year honor.
Joining Duchon, Zembrodt, and Ghibaudy on the All-HCAC team are Earlham College’s Joy Doucette (So., Berwyn Heights, Md.), Lauren Berry (Sr., Durham, N.C.), Ikumi Doucette (So., Berwyn Heights, Md.), Cate Simmermaker (So., Louisville, Ky.), and Megan Holthaus (Sr., Harrison, Ohio), Hanover College’s Lindsey Jump (Sr., Columbus, Ohio) and Kaitlin McCulloch (So., Florence, Ky.), Mount St. Joseph’s Ashley Maynard (Sr., Milford, Ohio), Rose-Hulman’s Molly Richardson (Sr., Orange Park, Fla.) and Eli Baca (Sr., Santa Fe, N.M.), and Transylvania University’s Kristin Tenhundfeld (Sr., West Chester, Ohio), Elizabeth Schmitt (Jr., Ft.
