Women's Soccer Report (Week 6) - Hanover Keeps Pace with Transy and Earlham
GREENWOOD, IN - Hanover College kept pace in the highly competitive HCAC women's soccer race with a pair of wins last week. The Panthers (9-1-1, 2-0 HCAC) defeated Spalding 8-0 in non-conference play and shutout Rose-Hulman 3-0 Saturday for their fifth straight win.
Freshman midfielder Ashley Turner (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) totaled three goals and an assist during the wins. The freshman scored one goal and assisted on another in HC's win over Spalding. Turner followed that performance with two goals in a win over Rose-Hulman Saturday afternoon.
Hanover will look to keep pace with fellow 3-0 HCAC squads Transylvania and Earlham as the Panthers face Mount St. Joseph and Earlham this week. HC ranks fifth in the Great Lakes Region.
Transylvania won its 10th straight contest, defeating Manchester 5-0 in the Pioneers (10-1, 3-0 HCAC) only match of the week.
Transy moved up to No. 12 in the latest NSCAA National Top 25 and stands No. 1 in the Great Lakes Regional Rankings. TU faces Earlham and Defiance this week.
Earlham College (6-4-1, 3-0 HCAC) netted wins over Bluffton and Mount St. Joseph to keep pace with Hanover and Transy.
Ikumi Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) scored twice and had an assist during the two wins. The junior scored the first goal in a 2-1 win over Bluffton and added the opening goal in a 2-0 victory over Mount St. Joseph.
The Quakers have a tough week as they prepare to face Transylvania Wednesday and Hanover Saturday.
Franklin also earned a pair of wins during the week. The Grizzlies (8-3, 2-1 HCAC) blanked Anderson 5-0 and handed Defiance a 2-1 setback.
