Women's Soccer Report (Week 8) - Quakers Look to Complete Title Run
GREENWOOD, IN - Earlham College saw its seven match win streak come to a close Saturday at Manchester, falling to the Spartans 2-0. Despite the loss, the Quakers (9-5-1, 6-1 HCAC) continue to control their own destiny for the top seed in next week's HCAC tournament.
Earlham began the week with a 3-1 win over Defiance. Junior Ikumi Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) scored a pair of goals in the win.
EC remains in a tie for first with Hanover, but holds the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Panthers. Earlham closes the season against Rose-Hulman and Franklin this week and will be the top seed in the HCAC tournament with a pair of wins.
Hanover pulled into a first place tie due to a pair of wins last week. The Panthers (12-2-1, 6-1 HCAC) shutout Transylvania 2-0 and Anderson 7-0 to pull off the perfect week.
Freshman midfielder Erin Hancock (Amelia, Ohio/H.S.) scored two goals in the two wins. Hancock scored the eventual game-winner in the fifth minute of action in Hanover's 2-0 win over Transylvania and also tallied an unassisted goal in the Panthers' 7-0 win over Anderson.
HC will travel to rival Franklin and Bluffton this week with a share of the conference championship on the line.
Transylvania currently occupies the third spot in the standings with a 5-2 league mark. The Pioneers (12-3, 5-2 HCAC) split a pair of matches last week, earning a win over Franklin after the setback to Hanover.
Hanover, Transy, and Earlham are all ranked in the latest NSCAA Great Lakes Regional poll. HC stands 6th, while TU and EC rank 8th and 10th respectively.
Bluffton currently holds the fourth and final spot in the race for a HCAC tournament berth. The Beavers (9-3-2, 4-2-1 HCAC) have a one point lead over Manchester (6-9-1, 4-3 HCAC).
