Women's Soccer Report (Week 5) - Earlham Enters HCAC Action with 5-0 Win
GREENWOOD, IN - Earlham College opened the HCAC women's soccer schedule with a win over the weekend. The Quakers (4-4-1, 1-0 HCAC) capped off a perfect 2-0 week with a 5-0 defeat of Anderson Saturday. EC also defeated DePauw 1-0 in their final non-conference match of the season.
Junior midfielder Ikumi Doucette (Berwyn Heights, MD / Eleanor Roosevelt) scored Earlham's goal in the 1-0 win over DePauw and added another goal against Anderson.
Senior goalkeeper Kate Franks (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) posted a pair of shutouts during the week to lead the Quakers defense.
EC will tangle with Bluffton and Mount St. Joseph in conference play this week.
Transylvania saw its win streak reach nine straight after posting a pair of wins last week. The Pioneers (9-1, 2-0 HCAC) closed the non-league schedule with a 2-1 overtime win over Wittenberg and added a 4-0 defeat of Bluffton in league play.
Senior midfielder Elizabeth Schmitt (Mitchell, Ky./Notre Dame) scored three goals in the pair of wins. The senior had the game-winner in the closing seconds of overtime in a 2-1 decision over Wittenberg and added a pair of goals against Bluffton.
Despite the victories, Transy fell to No. 16 in the latest NSCAA National Top 25 and is tied at No. 1 in the Great Lakes Regional Rankings with Centre and Waynesburg.
Mount St. Joseph, Manchester, and Hanover were also victorious over the weekend. The Lions shutout Rose-Hulman 1-0, while Manchester blanked Franklin 2-0.
Hanover (7-1-1, 2-0 HCAC) kept pace with Transylvania with a 3-0 defeat of Defiance and currently ranks sixth in the Great Lakes Region.
