Earlham’s Doucette & Hanover’s McCulloch Headline Women’s Soccer All-HCAC Selections

GREENWOOD, IN – Earlham College's Ikumi Doucette (Berwyn Heights, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and Hanover College's Kaitlin McCulloch (Florence, Ky./Boone Co.) have been named the 2011 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer Offensive and Defensive Most Valuable Players. Doucette, a junior midfielder, helped guide the Quakers to the school's second-straight HCAC championship and earn the top seed in the conference tournament.  McCulloch anchored a Panthers defense that did not allow a single goal in two conference tournament matches, earning the HCAC's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.

Doucette was an offensive leader for the Quakers all season long, ranking fourth in the HCAC with 21 points this season.  The junior ranked second in the HCAC with 10 goals scored and also chipped in an assist.

McCulloch, a junior back for Hanover, was a star on a defensive unit that has allowed only nine goals and posted 12 shutouts in 19 matches so far this season, including only two goals allowed in conference play.

The HCAC has also announced the 2011 Freshman of the Year.  Hanover's Erin Hancock (Amelia, Ohio/H.S.) earned the award for her efforts during her first season as a Panther.  Hancock was one of the top offensive stars in the HCAC this season, ranking sixth overall in points (17) and sixth in goals scored (7).  Hancock was instrumental in Hanover sharing the regular season title and earning a HCAC tournament championship this fall.

Hanover head coach Jim Watts has been named the 2011 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.  Watts has led the Panthers to a 15-2-2 overall record and an 8-1 record in conference play, claiming a share of their fourth conference championship.  Hanover defeated Bluffton in the conference tournament championship, earning the school's first berth to the NCAA tournament.  This is coach Watts' second Coach of the Year honor.

Joining Doucette, McCulloch, and Hancock on the All-HCAC team are Anderson University's Sarah Guffy (Jr., Milwaukee, Wis.), Bluffton University's Taylor Fultz (Fr., Camden, Ohio), Earlham College's Joy Doucette (Jr., Berwyn Heights, Md.), Cate Simmermaker (Jr., Louisville, Ky.), and Kate Franks (Sr., Hopewell, Ohio), Hanover College's Olivia Selm (Sr., Zionsville, Ind.), Christa Hurak (Jr., Lexington, Ky.), and Abbey Schmahl (Sr., Aurora, Ind.), Mount St. Joseph's Lauren Bishnow (So., Huber Heights, Ohio), and Transylvania University's Alyssa Kruse (Fr., Lexington, Ky.), Amy Ghibaudy (So., Lexington, Ky.), Elizabeth Schmitt (Sr., Ft.
