Women's Soccer Report (Week 4) - Bluffton Notches Pair of 3-0 Triumphs
GREENWOOD, IN - The Bluffton University women's soccer team defeated Mount St. Joseph 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. It marked the first time ever in women's soccer that the Beavers have knocked off the Lions in their 14-match history. BU (4-1-1, 1-0 HCAC) also earned a 3-0 win over Ohio Christian earlier in the week.
Freshman Taylor Fultz (Camden, Ohio/Preble Shawnee) led Bluffton during the week. The forward scored three goals, two in a win over Ohio Christian, and another in Bluffton's victory over HCAC rival Mount St. Joseph. She also had a shot rattle off the post and rebound off a Mount defender into the back of the net.
Fultz leads the Beavers with six goals this year.
Transylvania now stands 7-1 overall this season and has won seven consecutive matches. The Pioneers (7-1, 1-0 HCAC) took care of Maryville (TN) 3-1 and defeated Rose-Hulman 2-1 in the HCAC opener.
Freshman midfielder Alyssa Kruse (Lexington, Ky./Tates Creek) scored four goals during the week, scoring a pair of goals in each win.
She had the game-deciding goal in both matches and currently leads the squad with nine goals this fall.
Transy moved to No. 14 in the latest NSCAA National Top 25 and is tied at No. 1 in the Great Lakes Regional Rankings with rival Centre.
Hanover and Defiance were also victorious on HCAC opening weekend. The Panthers (6-1-1, 1-0 HCAC) handed Manchester a 1-0 defeat and currently ranks seventh in the Great Lakes Region.
Defiance (3-5, 1-0 HCAC) handled Anderson 3-0 in an impressive road win.
