Women's Soccer Report (Week 1) - Hanover Ends 1st Week Perfect 2-0
GREENWOOD, IN - The Hanover College women's soccer team pulled out a pair of road wins last week to begin the season 2-0. The Panthers stand along side Franklin as the only unbeaten squads in the conference after the opening week of play.
Hanover opened the campaign with a narrow 3-2 win at Trine. HC held a 3-0 lead at halftime before allowing a pair of Thunder goals in the second frame.
In a 1-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan, Christa Hurak (Lexington, Ky./Catholic) netted the game's only goal in the 29th minute of action.
The Panthers stand No. 9 in the latest NSCAA/Adidas Great Lakes Regional Rankings. Earlham College stands No. 7 in the poll after a 1-1 mark opening week, while Transylvania is receiving votes.
Franklin College was impressive in a pair of blowout wins. The Grizzlies outscored their opponents 15-1 on the week, notching a 5-1 win over Knox and a 10-0 decision against Eureka.
Freshman forward Ali Norton (Hartford City, Ind./Blackford) came off the bench in both contests, scoring a total of four goals and one assist to lead the Grizzlies offense.
Freshman Brandy Ramaj (Washington, Ind./H.S.) totaled seven points on three goals and one assist in her first two collegiate contests for the blue and gold.
Preseason conference favorite Transylvania opened the season with a 2-1 record. Freshman forward Alyssa Kruse (Lexington, Ky./Tates Creek) tallied 10 points during her first week of collegiate play, scoring four goals and two assists in wins over Point Park and Marietta to earn the HCAC Player of the Week award.
