Women's Soccer Report (Week 8) - Hanover Maintains Lead in Championship Race
GREENWOOD, IN - Hanover College improved to 4-0-1 in league play following a pair of wins last week. The Panthers (11-1-2, 4-0-1 HCAC) defeated Earlham 2-1 and blanked Bluffton 4-0 Saturday. HC currently holds a one point lead over Rose-Hulman and Manchester in the league championship race.
Freshman forward Elaine Simpson (Lexington, Ky./Tates Creek) led the Panthers offense during the week. Simpson assisted on the game-winning goal in the Panthers' 2-1 win over Earlham and added two goals to seal Hanover's 4-0 win at Bluffton Saturday.
Hanover is riding a nine-match unbeaten streak dating back to a 2-0 loss at Centre on September 11. HC remains No. 3 in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA DIII Great Lakes Region rankings.
The Panthers will play a pair of road contests at Mount St. Joseph and at Rose-Hulman this week.
In other action...
Manchester finished the week 2-0 for the second consecutive week, defeating Defiance and Earlham. The Spartans (8-6-1, 4-1 HCAC) only loss in league play was a 2-1 setback against Hanover back on October 5.
Transylvania earned an important conference win, beating Rose-Hulman 1-0 in overtime Saturday. The Pioneers (9-3-2, 3-1-1 HCAC) scored the game-winner in the 100th minute of play, handing the Engineers (8-3-4, 4-1 HCAC) their first HCAC loss. The Pioneers are ranked No. 6 in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA DIII Great Lakes Region rankings.
