GREENWOOD, IN – The Hanover College women's soccer program earned the HCAC title for the fifth time and secured the top seed for the conference tournament. The Panthers earned an outright league title for the first time since 2003. The top-seed Panthers are playing great soccer heading into tournament play, winning their last seven matches. Hanover will battle No. 4 seed Rose-Hulman in one semifinal, while second seed Manchester will host No. 3 Transylvania in the second semifinal.
Hanover finished the regular season with an 8-0-1 mark in conference play and a 15-1-2 overall record. The Panthers secured the top seed in the conference tournament with a 6-0 win over Defiance Saturday afternoon. Freshman forward Elaine Simpson (Lexington, Ky./Tates Creek) netted two goals in the contest to lead HC over the Jackets and earn the outright league title.
Hanover and Rose-Hulman (10-5-4, 6-3 HCAC) met back on October 26 at RHIT as the Panthers defeated the Engineers 1-0 in overtime. Rachel Alvis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) scored the game-winner in the 92nd minute of play. The winner of the 2:00 PM match-up will advance on to Saturday's championship contest.
Manchester (12-6-1, 8-1 HCAC) and Transylvania (13-3-2, 7-1-1 HCAC) will meet in the second semi-final Wednesday. The Spartans defeated the Pioneers 2-1 on October 12. Allison Rowe (La Quinta, Calif./H.S.) netted the game-winning goal early in the second half. Action will get underway from Manchester at 2:00 PM Wednesday.
The winner of the conference tournament will earn the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III tournament that is slated to begin on November 15. The highest remaining seed after the two semi-finals will host the conference tournament final at 1:00 PM Saturday.
