Women's Tennis Report (Week 5) - Transy Earns 1st HCAC Women's Tennis Title

GREENWOOD, IN - Transylvania captured their first Heartland Conference regular season women's tennis title on September 26 with a 9-0 win over Anderson.  The Pioneers finished the regular season 7-0 in conference matches.

Transy will be the top seed in the HCAC Tournament on October 16 and face No. 4 seed Anderson (4-8, 4-3 HCAC).  The event will be held at the West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis with the winner receiving the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships in May.

The Pioneers recorded their tenth straight win of the season last week, knocking off Asbury 9-0.  Freshman Kaitlin Hizny (Owensboro, Ky./Daviess Co.) ended the regular season with a team-best 21-1 overall record at the No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles position.

Rose-Hulman (8-2, 6-1 HCAC) finished second in the league standings and will have the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.  The Engineers will face No. 3 seed Franklin (6-4, 5-2 HCAC) at 9:00 AM on October 16 in the other semifinal match up.

This weekend, all eight HCAC women's tennis teams will take part in the HCAC Individual Flight Tournament at West Indy Racquet Club.  A champion will be crowned at each singles and doubles position with the event being held on Saturday and Sunday.
